FOAM MATTRESS TOPPER - Magnetic mattress pads

Magnetic mattress pads, also known a magnetic toppers or overlays, sit on top of a mattress like a normal topper, however they incorporate a large number of small magnets within the topper.

The concept behind these embedded magnets is that they work to create an electro magnetic field around the sleeping body and this in turn provides magnetic therapy for the entire body.

Reasons to buy a magnetic mattress pad

There is no definitive scientific proof to substantiate the claimed benefits of magnetic mattress pads. However, there are many who believe that they do work and some research has been undertaken that appears to support some of the claims being put forward.

The idea behind magnetic therapy is that by placing the human body within a weak magnetic field a number of physiological benefits will arise. These claimed advantages result from the magnetic field penetrating the tissues and bones of the body and providing a physical assistance. A variety of differing claims are made, but they all center around the curing or easing of one or more of the following.

Insomnia and restless sleep.

Back pain originating from the spine or main torso muscles.

Pain or tension around the shoulders, upper back and neck.

Aching limbs.

Tiredness, tension and stress.

Other aches, pains and discomforts.

Magnetic mattress pads and pillow pads are generally only available through on-line retailers and supplier.

How magnetic mattress pads work

The individual magnets are embedded within the main filling of the topper or pad and they are distributed evenly across the mattresses area. The layout is symmetrical and balanced.

A single bed could have anything from 80 to 200 magnets whilst a double bed (or larger) will have over 300 individual magnets.

The size of the magnets varies between manufacturers, but they will generally be between half an inch to one inch in diameter and up to one quarter of an inch in depth. When using the magnetic mattress topper the magnets should be negative in polarity (i.e. north facing).

Magnetic pillow pads

The one weakness in the total body magnetic therapy approach of a magnetic topper is the interference of pillows (which raise the head and neck above the magnets).

Magnetic pillow pads, which are really reduced size versions of magnetic toppers, can resolve this problem. They are placed inside the pillow cases to complete the magnetic fields encapsulation of the sleeping body.
